A golden season, part 3—romantic ruffles
We have two custom wedding cakes featured today. These weddings took place in June and August, and the romantic ruffles, flowers, and accents of gold were prevalent in both. Interestingly, the weddings were held at Misty Farms, and their new sister property, The Valley, both in Ann Arbor. And as “vintage romance” is a big appeal of farm weddings, it’s not too surprising that these cakes ended up with a similar style.
This charming cake fit right in under the stylish tent at Misty Farms. Shades of corals and pinks, with the white and gold made this cake a display of delicate, edible art. Ruffles, trending downward, gave the base of this cake a soft tranquility. This contrasted nicely with the eye-catching, handmade gumpaste garden roses made by Stephanie.
These nine cascading beauties stole the show (of the cake that is). Soft and bold colors mixed with all those different sizes…so exquisite. Stephanie completed the look with touches of gold by making little berry clusters. These added a soft metallic touch while giving the cascade more depth and dimension. Perfect for a sunny summer day.
Handmade pearls and flowers made up this vintage inspired wedding cake. Upward ruffles, from ivory to a super light pink, created a soft yet dramatic bottom tier. Much like a lady draped in her pearls, the top tier of the cake was dressed up with overlapping layers of ivory and white shimmered sugar pearls. All sitting atop a golden cake board on a elegant cake stand.
These magnificent sprays were formed with open and closed peonies, gold-dusted ivory roses and gold stephanotis flowers. To add to the golden pops, Katie made the open peonies with gold and white centers. Visually interesting with different shapes, colors, and textures. Just lovely.
