All in the family

It’s not often that family members get married within the same year, but the Mattesons’ are not your typical family. Last November, we wrote a post about Brian and Amy and their unique wedding cake (check out their story if you haven’t already) but since then, we’ve created cakes for Brian’s brother David and his sister Rachel. We thought it would be fun to share with everyone the Matteson Family cakes.
David and Vanessa

Married in June at the lovely Island Park in Ann Arbor, David and Vanessa decided upon a tasty summer combination of buttermilk cake with lime curd and raspberry buttercream filling. We then “horonically” iced (what we call horizontally-rustically) their cake in vanilla buttercream and made a colorful spray of large ranunculus flowers, wild flowers, and berries. A cheerful and clean, classic design for a summertime-park wedding.

Andrew and Rachel
Married in October at Zingerman’s Events on 4th, Andrew and Rachel went in a different, yet altogether delicious route. Choosing a rich combination of chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, and chocolate milk buttercream, their cake was also iced in vanilla buttercream but with a more complex decoration. We took the popular birch tree look and put a twist on it by creating dramatic peels of white chocolate “bark” and fall-toned sugar leaves. We then molded and decorated their sweet bird bride and groom toppers.

There’s one sibling left to get married but I hear he’s younger so we’ll have to wait awhile, but in the meantime, we can’t wait for another big event as we certainly hope to be there cause we all feel like family!
