We are the Zingerman’s Bakehouse Cake Department, affectionally known as “The Cake Ladies.”  We are in charge of icing and decorating all custom cakes, wholesale cakes, cupcakes, and decorated sugar cookies as well as doing all bridal/celebration consultations.

Our backgrounds range from bachelors degrees in psychology, interior design, sculpture, hotel and restaurant management, and advertising but we all found ourselves with baking and pastry certificates and as cake decorators.  One of the most valuable parts of working in and with this team is that we all have different strengths and while we all learn from each other, the person with the right strength will work on your wedding cake.

Stephanie Gasinski
Department Manager

Stephanie, originally from Canton, studied Hospitality at Madonna University and Baking and Business at Schoolcraft College.  She started working at the Bakehouse in 2005, first as a bread baker but then moved to the cake department where she has found her home.  Her decorating speciality is piping scrollwork and painting. Her favorite Zingerman’s cake is the hummingbird cake.

Emily Grish
Emily, born and raised in Ann Arbor, got a degree in Mass Communications from Boston University before returning to Michigan and earning a certificate in Baking & Pastry from Washtenaw Community College.  She came to the cake department in 2008 after working as an assistant pastry chef in downtown Ann Arbor.  As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, she considers her decorating speciality to be angular, modern designs as well as 3D cakes.  Her favorite Zingerman’s cake is the buttermilk cake with lemon buttercream.

Katie Robinson
Katie, from “Down River” as she calls it, studied Interior Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Sculpture at Wayne State University, and Baking & Pastry from Washtenaw Community College. A self-taught cake decorator, Katie joined the cake department in 2010.  Her love and speciality of making hand-made sugar flowers has greatly increased our love and interest in them too.  Her favorite Zingerman’s cake is the almond pound cake.

Sider Pangman
Sider studied Child Psychology in Mexico and became a certified Montessori teacher before coming to the States and earning a Culinary Arts and Baking Degree from Washtenaw Community College.  She originally began at the Bakehouse in 2008 in the pastry department and moved to the cake department in 2010.  Another perfectionist, she considers her speciality to be in the details.  Her favorite Zingerman’s cake is the coconut cake.
