Cornman concepts

Posted on

We are so excited for the newest Zingerman’s business, Cornman Farms, to be up and running in May—only 1 month away!  Cornman (as we like to call it) is a full-fledged farm with all sorts of mouth-watering fresh produce and fun farm animals.  It’s also home to a beautiful refurbished barn and farmhouse.  Perfect for weddings, showers, corporate events, and so much more, Cornman has the unique ability of holding up to 300 guests—a feat usually reserved for hotels and banquet halls. As the sole provider of cakes for Cornman, we can’t wait for our tour of this gorgeous space.  In order to celebrate their opening, we thought we’d share some cake concepts for your potential future events.

Many people looking to get married on a farm tend to lean more towards a rustic or natural look.  Some sway more towards the vintage appeal, such as delicate lace.  Others, cupcakes and pies.  Just like any space, you make it what you want.  Looking for opulence and elegance?  We’ve got that too.  Take a look at some of these photos of cakes we’ve made and maybe you’ll get inspired!

Rustic cakes are all about their simplicity and charm.  Most commonly iced in buttercream, these cakes tend to have a textured base and are accompanied by flowers, either real or gumpaste.  Another spectrum is the “tree” most often occurring as the Birch tree with the touching element of the bride’s and groom’s initials carved into the trunk.  Other classic appeals are accents of small details or the sweet look of fresh flowers with a piped border.

Lace and Ruffles

Barns often have an old-fashioned vibe—one of the many reasons behind the desired vintage wedding theme.  Vintage, at least in fabric, is often equated with lace, ruffles, and brooches.   All of these styles can be incorporated into cake designs in a variety of ways using molds, piping, sugar veil, and various ruffling techniques. For colors, they trend more on the muted side like dusty rose or gray-lavender, and of course, white.

Elegant Affair

Maybe you desire a classy, elegant event.  Large or small, weddings, even in a barn, can very much be the black tie affair.  Because of this, we also wanted to show you some fancier, more “show-stopping” cakes.

Not having a wedding?  Cornman Farms is also delightful for smaller get-togethers such as baby or bridal showers, or small or large corporate events.  From cakes to cookies (often used as favors) these sweet options are also worth a peek.
