Better Than San Francisco Sourdough Rounds

Classic American bread with a beautifully blistered crust, pleasant sour tang and chewy texture. This is our go-to bread for grilled cheese Wednesday's at the Bakehouse. Sourdough rounds are $4.50 this month (reg. $6.25).

Meet Pane Sciocco... A chewy loaf of fresh bread, free of salt, just the way Tuscans like it! There is a story to how this bread came to be. It's believed that during the Middle Ages salt was so highly taxed that the people of Florence couldn’t afford to add it to their food, including their bread. They kept making bread, of course, and even though the price of salt came down, Tuscans were used to the flavor of their salt-free bread and it still stands today. Pane Sciocco (pon-ay-sho-ko), or bread with out salt, is available at the Bakehouse every Monday after 12:00.
