Meet Pane Sciocco... A chewy loaf of fresh bread, free of salt, just the way Tuscans like it! There is a story to how this bread came to be. It's believed that during the Middle Ages salt was so highly taxed that the people of Florence couldn’t afford to add it to their food, including their bread. They kept making bread, of course, and even though the price of salt came down, Tuscans were used to the flavor of their salt-free bread and it still stands today. Pane Sciocco (pon-ay-sho-ko), or bread with out salt, is available at the Bakehouse every Monday after 12:00.
Our most popular special bake, Peppered Bacon Farm bread, is fresh from the oven after 4:30 PM on June 14th and 15th. We're also baking up bacon pecan sandy cookies that weekend. We'd recommend a Mississippi mud pie or a carrot cake for dad's who don't do bacon. Call or stop in to reserve yours.
